When it comes to dining out, we always anticipate a great meal, especially when we're dining by the marina. However, our recent visit to Tostbaa, Fethiye, left us with a taste of disappointment that we can't help but share.
First, let's acknowledge that seafood availability can vary depending on the day's catch. We completely understand and appreciate this aspect of dining, but what we encountered went beyond a mere change in offerings.
Our anticipation soared when we placed an order for a seafood platter that promised large shell prawns, smaller prawns without shells, generous calamari, mussels still in their shells, succulent scallops, a sizeable whole octopus, and perfectly grilled fish. The menu descriptions and accompanying photos had our mouths watering!
However, what arrived at our table was a stark contrast to our expectations. Instead of the fresh and varied seafood we were hoping for, we found ourselves staring at canned mussels, prawns so small - compared to the menu images. To make matters worse, all the seafood had been excessively fried in oil, resulting in a greasy, heavy meal that lacked the delicate flavours we had hoped to savour. The disparity between what was advertised and what we received was undeniable, leaving us with a less-than-stellar dining experience. It's important to us to provide honest reviews, and in this case, we wouldn't recommend dining at Tostbaa.
While we understand that restaurants may sometimes have to make substitutions, it's crucial that these substitutions maintain the integrity and quality of the dish. Sadly, that wasn't the case here, and it left us wishing we had opted for a different restaurant.
On a positive note, there were a few highlights to our visit. The location by the harbour was charming, and the live music created a vibrant atmosphere. We also appreciated the effort put into the restaurant's seating and decor.
However, the overall experience, including the food, drinks, and shisha, fell far short of our expectations. We believe there are better dining options along the pier where you can enjoy both the ambiance and a satisfying meal.
A week later, we dined the restaurant next door and absolutely loved it. See our blog review here.
